Goodbye Joann + Mid-March Order Updates

Stopped by my local Joann, and the energy felt a little heavy. I grabbed one last pre-shirred fabric purchase and plan to swing by again in a few weeks for some sewing patterns and whatever Halloween fabric is left. On a brighter note, the Draper James collection is full of gorgeous spring prints—just the pop of color we all need right now!

Whether you're a hobbyist or running a small biz, I hope sewing and creating are bringing you some comfort during this chaotic year. Joann closing is a huge loss for their staff, crafters, and indie brands. While there are so many great fabric and craft suppliers out there, it's tough seeing smaller shops shutting down too.

For the past two years, slowly winding down my handmade brand has felt like a grieving process, but this career and creative shift was something I couldn’t put off any longer. With the rising costs of supplies and materials, I’m more committed than ever to sharing budget-friendly sewing tips and resources. Keeping my sewing content 100% free has been so rewarding, and I love that my Joann Shirred series is still reaching new sewists a year later! I can’t wait to wrap up the series with more tutorials from now through the summer.

I know I’m terribly delayed in listing my Joann pre-shirred tutorial samples from last year, but they’ll finally be ready this month! I’ll also be adding even more samples from the upcoming tutorials, so there will be plenty of handmade pieces available soon.

Lately, my weeks have been packed but productive—balancing my online studying/courses, sewing orders, and planning/filming new sewing tutorials while also reorganizing my sewing/office space. On top of that, I’ve finally started some major spring cleaning, which is long overdue! It feels good to tackle everything step by step and make space for what’s next.

A year ago, I was completely overwhelmed—stressed from relying so heavily on content creation while juggling orders nonstop. But this year, my entire process feels much calmer and less chaotic. Prioritizing sleep and making time for regular gym sessions and walks has been so therapeutic, and I can genuinely feel the difference in my mental health to. It’s made working and creating so much easier, and I finally feel like I’m in a better flow with everything. I can’t imagine ever going back to the nonstop, unrealistic schedule I used to have—it was completely damaging to my physical and mental health, and I’m so much better off without it. I was dealing with so many health issues due to the extreme stress, but since last fall, I’ve made some major health and lifestyle changes that have improved my life so much. 

I’m incredibly grateful to my customers for allowing me the grace and extended time to work at a much slower and healthier pace than ever before. Because of that, I can finally finish orders without the overwhelming stress and urgency that used to consume me as I gradually close out my handmade operation.

My 42nd birthday is in June, and my goal is to finish both my handmade order queue and the Joann Shirred series by then—so here’s to an exciting and productive few months ahead!
